The Fast Forward Center was established after a two-year study by the Montgomery County Out-of-School Youth Task Force. It is a department of Sinclair Community College which serves dropouts ages 15-21. The center serves as the "operating arm" of the Montgomery County Out-of-School Youth Initiative. The center provides initial assessment, case management, marketing, collaboration and innovative solutions the initiative.
The Fast Forward Center primarily serves students ages 15-21 who are out of school or not attending school on a regular basis. Students above the age of 22 can be referred to the Dayton A.B.L.E. GED program via the Fast Forward Center.
The Fast Forward Center provides alternative education options to out-of-school youth, and serves as a resource center for parents, students, and community organizations. Fast Forward presents its model to local, state, and national organizations.
The Fast Forward Center partners with community organizations, agencies, and public schools to meet the needs of out-of-school youth in Montgomery County.
The Fast Forward Center partners with several public high schools in Montgomery County (Mound St. Academies, ISUS, MVCTC Youth Connnections, and Life Skills Center of Dayton).
In addition, the Fast Forward Center partners with East End Community Services Corp., New Choices Middle School, Dayton Urban League OGT/OPT Intervention Program, and Webster St. Academy.
1. Students or parents call 512-FAST to arrange an appointment for assessment testing.
2. At the time of assessment appropriate forms are completed
3. Students choose the school they wish to attend
4. Assessment tests are administered on a computer
5. Student is given a preliminary vision screening in cooperation with Prevent Blindness Ohio.
6. Student folder is compiled to be forwarded to the chosen school.
Students who attend Fast Forward Center partner programs receive computer aided instruction, allowing them to advance toward a high school diploma at thier own pace. Unlike programs in a traditional educational setting, these programs are student driven. This flexibility allows students to recover credits at an accelerated pace.
Students earn a high school diploma by meeting state graduation standards, and passing all parts of the state graduation exam.
