Contact: Gary Honnert For immediate release 1-13-04 Model UN Conference to Convene at Sinclair Dayton, Ohio -- Sinclair Community College will host the 11th annual Dayton Model United Nations Conference (DAYMUNC) February 12-14. DAYMUNC, one of only two conferences of its kind in Ohio, is co-sponsored by Wright State University and the Dayton Council on World Affairs. Students from 16 colleges and universities in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and West Virginia will represent more than 50 countries in five committees. After months of research and preparation, delegates will discuss a wide range of world issues and try to negotiate solutions. Nuclear-free zones, the right to a decent standard of living, intellectual property law, information technology crimes, and the impact of poverty on the environment are among the topics. The committees include two Security Councils, a General Assembly plenary, and World Intellectual Property Organization committee, an Economic and Social Council, and for the first time, a session of the African Union. The keynote event will be held on Friday evening, February 13 and will include a panelist of local experts on the topic of the future of the African Union (formerly the Organization of African Unity). The panel discussion will begin at 7 p.m. in the Frederick C. Smith Auditorium of the David H. Ponitz Sinclair Center, Building 12. It is free and open to the public. Panelists include Sinclair Psychology Professor Dr. Boikai Twe, Migwe Kimemia of the American Friends Service Committee, and Professor December Green of Wright State University.
