Greetings!
After the simulation on January 17, the Rules and Awards
Committees will meet to discuss how our staff should evaluate and
reward participants at the upcoming conference.
In order to keep this meeting as short as possible, it is
important that all committee participants are prepared for the
meeting. There are some things we would like each of you to think
about and respond to before the Jan. 17 meeting.
Here are a few of the suggestions or issues we have to discuss:
- On what criteria should we evaluate delegate performance?
(e.g. delegate behaviors such as country representation,
debate, parliamentary procedure, substantive knowledge,
utility of caucus time, effective resolution writing, etc)
- What weight should various behaviors have relative to others
(for example, is it more important to accurately represent a
country or to be a rules expert?)
- What are indicators of delegate performance? (how do we know
that the delegate is or is not accurately representing their
country? etc...)
- How should delegate performance be assessed? E.g. all
officers assess every aspect, or individual officers to
assess different aspects according to their area of
responsibility etc.. Should each session be individually
assessed and scored and tabulated or should each assessor
keep score for the duration of the conference and submit
only final tallies? etc...
- What other ideas, issues, or concerns do you think ought to
be addressed?...the whole process is on the table for review.
Nothing is sacred. (except for the plaques which are already
made).
Please email your ideas to katiemsimpson@hotmail.com
and to Doug.Greathouse@sinclair.edu, so way we may begin
combining them and preparing handouts. We will bring all of the
suggestions we have received to the Jan. 17 meeting and post on the
web site.
Please feel free to propose suggestions or raise questions
whether or not you are serving on the committee--all input is
welcomed!
Katie
