System Requirements

For students interested in taking classes online, please be advised of the basic requirements necessary for all Web courses.

Hardware/Software/Access Requirements

a Pentium-based computer (or higher) or Macintosh equivalent
a 56 kps modem (or higher)
a CD player
an Internet account with access to the World Wide Web
Windows 98 (or higher) or MAC OS 9 (or higher)
24 MB RAM (or more)
120–500 MB free hard disk space
an e-mail account is recommended

Advanced Requirements

Some courses have a higher level of system requirements. The courses that need further support include:

BIS 201: Customer Service
CIS 110: Program Design & Logic
DEV 085: Basic Mathematics II
DRT 196: Technical Graphics Communication
EBE 170: Introduction to Cooperative Education/Internship & Career Skills
ENG 113: English Composition III
PTA 116: Movement Science I
PTA 118: Movement Science II

These above advanced requirement classes need systems that meet these requirements:

Pentium II (or higher) or Macintosh equivalent
Sound card
CD player (24x or higher)
64 MB RAM (or more)
Headphones and/or speakers
Plugins: Flash, Shockwave, QuickTime and Windows Media Player

NOTE: Sinclair has three state-of-the-art teleports for students to use for Web course work. These teleports are located on the first floor of building 14 and in rooms 11-346 and 13-223.

Special Software Requirements

BIS Courses
Students in some Fall 2007 online business information systems (BIS) courses will need to have access to Microsoft Office 2003 and/or Microsoft Office 2007 software.

This software is installed on Sinclair lab computers and the Microsoft Office 2007 software can be purchased through Sinclair's Tartan Bookstore. Please note: Microsoft Office 2003 is no longer available for purchase through Sinclair's Bookstore.

The BIS courses requiring Microsoft Office 2007 are:

BIS M55

BIS M85

The BIS courses requiring Microsoft Office 2003:

BIS M36

BIS M46

BIS M86

BIS M81 and BIS M82 require Project 2003 software. This is NOT part of Microsoft Office 2003 or 2007.
