Parcell Named Ohio Professor of the Year

Sinclair Community College Associate Professor Dr. John Parcell has made the spotlight as the 2009 Ohio Professor of the Year. Awarded by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Parcell was selected as one of the 38 state winners. These state and national honors have been presented by CASE and the Carnegie Foundation since since 1981. This year, Parcell was chosen as a professor of the year among over 300 top professors in the United States.

Dr. Parcell has taught music at Sinclair since 2004 and was previously recognized for his excellence in teaching by the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD). By creating "a welcoming, yet challenging environment that is marked by a spirit of innovation, risk-taking and a palpable desire for excellence," Dr. Kathleen Cleary, dean of the liberal arts, communications and social sciences division at Sinclair, regards Parcell as an "exemplary teacher.

In addition, Cleary points out that Dr. John Parcell "is a gifted award-winning musician and composer." For example, going beyond the classroom, he holds a Certificate of Merit from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and the “Best of Season” award from the DayTony organization.

According to Sinclair President Dr. Steven Johnson, Parcell "fits in at Sinclair so well because he is dedicated to excellence in his discipline. All of the faculty at Sinclair are dedicated to connecting education to student success." Parcell even feels a part of something greater at the college, saying "it feels good to win this for Sinclair. I’m happy to contribute." With a strong commitment to service, engagement and inspiration in education and beyond, Sinclair Community College is proud of its many award-winning faculty members.
