Dayton, OH – Sinclair Women's Basketball team hosted Ohio Community College Athletic Conference rival and the number two team in the nation, Owens College on the campus of Sinclair this afternoon. Playing in front of a large Pink Zone crowd, The Lady Pride pulled off one of the biggest upset in Sinclair history, 76-74. Owens coming into the contest as the number two ranked team in the country and on top of the OCCAC, came under constant pressure from a smaller but quicker Tartan Pride team. With 54 seconds remaining Haleigh Hickebottom hit a 3 point shot to put the Pride up by one. A great defensive effort on the opposite end for Sinclair led to two foul shots by Chelcie Gullet, making one of two gave the Pride a two point edge. Then with eight seconds left, Sinclair would steal the ball and run out the clock for the win.
Leading the way for The Lady Pride with 19 points was Chelcie Gullett (Xenia), Haleigh Hickenbottom (West Liberty Salem) had 16, Shannon Campbell (Miamisburg) with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Jana Gross (Bellbrook) added 10. The Lady Pride now stand 17-8 overall and 7-5 in the conference.
Sinclair will return to action at home on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 4:00 PM as they take on Lakeland College. Sinclair basketball is played at the Physical Activities Center in Building 8, on the campus of Sinclair.
