DAYTON, Ohio (12/15/09) -- Sinclair Community College is now accepting applications for its Annual Creative Writing Contest. Open to students and the general public, the contest features cash prizes for winning entries from area high school and adult writers.

Sponsored by Sinclair's English department, the contest is open to writers who ha ve received no payment for published manuscripts. There are four categories including Adult Fiction, Adult Non-Fiction, Adult Poetry, and High School (any fiction, non-fiction, poetry). Entries must be postmarked by February 1, 2010.

In each category, prizes will be awarded at $60 for first place, $30 for second place, and $20 for third place. Honorable Mention and first through third place winners will receive certificates suitable for framing. Winners will be notified by mail in March 2008.

A banquet will be held in May to honor all awardees and a best all around award is offered to the top winner of all four categorie s. This prize is a full tuition waiver for the week long Antioch Writers' Workshop (July 10-17th).

Fees are $5 per adult entry and $3 per high school entry. Two poems will be considered one entry.
