DAYTON, Ohio (10/02/09) – A boy, a girl, and a killer plant entwine for Sinclair Community College’s production of Little Shop of Horrors sprouting October 16-24 in Blair Hall Theatre, Building 2, on the Sinclair Campus.
Little Shop of Horrors is a rock musical about two co-workers at a skid row florist shop. Nerdy Seymour buys a plant during a sudden eclipse of the sun and names it for his secret love, Audrey. The plant appears to be dying until Seymour discovers what it requires to thrive.
Based on the 1960 low-budget dark comedy film, this popular musical is brought to new life with a rock and roll, doo-wop, early Motown sound. Book and lyrics are by Howard Ashman with music by Alan Menken. Award-winning director is Nelson Sheeley with musical direction by John Faas and choreography by Rodney Veal.
Sinclair performance major James Roselli will reprise the role of Seymour that he played10 years ago as a freshman in high school. Tracie Puckett will go blond to portray the soulful Audrey and Jenna Burnette, Risa Hillsman, and Kelli Sexton will tell it like it is as the “Do-Wop” Girls. Rounding out the cast are: Steven Brotherton, Saul Caplan, Scott Christian, Angela Dermer, Aaron Dunavent, Michael Frazier, Jacinta Greaves, Sara Linker, Sean Metcalf, Chris Petree and Joshua Scales.
Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., (Sunday matinee sold out), two weekday matinees, October 20-21 at 10:00 a.m. and the ever-popular Downtown Dayton Thursday Nights on October 22nd at 7:00 p.m.
Admission cost is $15 for adults, $12 seniors and $10 for students and Sinclair employees. ALL Thursday tickets cost an additional $5 for pre-show appetizers in the lobby at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are available online at sinclair.edu/arts.
