Sinclair Community College

Michael Carter New Senior Vice President

Michael Carter has accepted the position of Senior Vice President at Sinclair. He immediately assumes permanent leadership responsibility for student services, marketing, school linkages, regional learning centers and other critical college functions. As a Senior Vice President, Michael is a member of the President's Cabinet and is responsible for tens of millions of dollars in resources and operations.

President Johnson's decision to hire Michael comes after an intensive, four part process where Michael shared his background and vision, and fielded questions from four different college groups over the past several days. The groups were (a) a cross-college team of faculty and staff leaders, (b) the direct reports of the Senior Vice President, (c) the president’s cabinet, and (d) the staff of the division. All four groups strongly agreed that Michael has tried and proven seasoning and abilities. All recommended that Michael be hired.

Michael previously served for many years as the Director of the Fast Forward Center. This center is the coordinating organization for the nationally-acclaimed Montgomery County Out of School Youth Initiative. Before that he served for many years at a principal of Trotwood-Madison High School. He also served for many years as a high school teacher and a successful and highly acclaimed basketball coach.

Active in the regional community, he serves on numerous boards, including the Dayton Early College Academy. He has won numerous awards of distinction during his career, including the Top Ten African American Male and also the National Dropout Prevention Star award.

Michael holds a BA in history from Wittenberg University, and an MA in Education from Wright State University.
