Baseball Repeats as Regular Season Champs

Looking to claim their second regular season OCCAC title in as many years, the Pride wasted no time jumping out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning against Lakeland. Clay Ragland got things started with a lead off single, after a one out walk to Justin Marrero, Corey Throckmorton was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Byron Johann who singled in two. Jacob Robinson's sac fly pushed Throckmorton across giving the Pride a three run first. Those three runs proved to be all sophomore starter Zach Botjer would need to pick up the win. Botjer would go the distance in the game striking out 5 while allowing only one run in 7 innings of work, as Sinclair clinched the regular season conference title and the number one seed in the conference tournament. Botjer who will be heading to Ashland next fall now stands 3-2 on the season.

Final Score: #5 Sinclair 5 Lakeland 1

Offensive Leaders: Corey Throckmorton 2-3 2 RS 2B RBI, Byron Johann 2-4 SB 2 RBI's.

Jeremiah Kerns took the hill in game two and didn't disappoint, pitching a complete game shutout with 9 k's in just five innings. On the offensive side, RBI singles from Zach Stewart and Corey Throckmorton put Sinclair in front 3-0 in the first. The Pride would strike once again in the third for three more lead by Justin Marrero's rbi triple. Clay Ragland singled in two more in the four run forth inning giving the Tartans a 10 run advantage. In the 14 hit attack, Sinclair saw all the starters collect at least one hit.

Final Score: #5 Sinclair 10 Lakeland 0

Offensive Leaders: Clay Ragland 3-3 2B 2 RBI's, Zach Stewart 2-4 2B RBI, Corey Throckmorton 2-3 RBI.

The Pride finished 10-2 in conference play and now stand 36-8 overall. Sinclair is back in action tomorrow @ Urbana for a 3:30 DH.
