Sinclair Community College Recognizes and Celebrates Students Completing Ohio Registered Apprenticeships

Sinclair Community College recognized 22 student apprentices who have completed their registered apprenticeships with Dayton region employers during a special ceremony on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. The event was held during National Apprenticeship Week (November 13-19, 2023).

The apprentices are employed at Dayton region companies including Clippard, DMAX, Eagle, EnviroControl, Ernst, Orbis, Sonoco, Stolle, and Waibel Energy Systems. Eight apprentices participated in the ceremony.

Sinclair Community College’s Apprenticeship Program officially launched in the 2018 Spring Semester. Sinclair is one of only 10 Ohio Community Colleges to be awarded a U.S. Department of Labor grant (via ApprenticeOhio), affording the opportunity to offer an apprenticeship program managed by a community college.

Apprenticeships are a “learn-while-you-earn” model that combines on-the-job training, provided by the employer that hires the apprentice, with job-related instruction provided by Sinclair. The model also involves progressive increases in an apprentice’s skills and wages.

“Sinclair Community College is incredibly proud to offer apprenticeship opportunities to students and employers that are making a tremendous impact on our efforts to build a skilled workforce in high demand, lucrative, and rewarding careers,” said Chad Bridgman, Director – Sinclair Community College Office of Work-Based Learning. “The value of registered apprenticeships cannot be understated.  Apprentices receive paid hands-on training and real-world experience in a specific trade or profession while employers gain a skilled and trained workforce that meets their specific needs.”

Sinclair’s Office of Work-Based Learning offers apprenticeship opportunities in multiple industries including:

  • Maintenance Electrician
  • Maintenance Mechanic
  • HVAC Install/Service
  • Machinist
  • Industrial Maintenance
  • Toolmaker
  • Quality Technician

20 companies in the Dayton region are participating in Sinclair’s apprenticeship programs. Currently, Sinclair’s Office of Work-Based Learning is working with 90 apprentices.
