Instructor: Amy O'Dell
Description:

The Better Business Bureau, in partnership with Workforce Development & Corporate Services Division of Sinclair Community College, is pleased to present the Non-Profit Breakfast Briefing Series:  Making the Most of Conflict
Research tells us managers spend 18%-26% of their time on conflict.  The average employee spends almost 3 hrs. each week engaged in conflict.  That equates to a huge amount of time, money, and energy for most organizations.  Poorly managed conflict can generate resentment, contribute to absenteeism and turnover, a negative work environment, and even legal action.  However, the answer is not to eliminate conflict.  After all, if your company doesn’t have much conflict, it may not have much innovation either.  The challenge is to manage it constructively so that conflicts are uncovered quickly and dealt with in a healthy way.  Learn the five modes of handling conflict, when to use each, the benefits and costs, and the skills needed to support each one.

Time: 7:30 a.m. - 9:00a.m.

 990s, Audits, Governance, and More!

Attend this informational presentation to receive insight of how the recent changes to Form 990 have caused scrutiny for many Not-for-Profit organizations. Because the 990 is a public document and forms were filled out differently based on the organization and preparer, each line of the 990 is being carefully examined. It is extremely important that preparers and managers work together to ensure that the annual return tells the right story. NFP organizations should be prepared to respond properly to the questions that may arise regarding their published 990. Expect to take away an update regarding truthful disclosure and corrective actions.

We will also explore the ins and outs of Financial Reporting for Not-for-Profit organizations and working with your accountant/auditor. You will gain a better understanding of how to handle the preparation of your financial statement and how to conduct a financial statement audit and/or Single Audit in accordance with Government Auditing Standards. In the session, we will also touch on Corporate Governance topics including operating policies of the organization’s board, reporting conflicts of interest, compensation approval for key executives, audit committee responsibilities and the strategic plan.
