Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) Online Training

Eligibility: To be eligible for this training program, you need to either have two years education or experience working in healthcare as a clinical practitioner/healthcare worker, medical records, health information management processes, medical billing or hospital business office or two years education or experience in an information technology (IT) or information system role in a business or healthcare environment.

Nearly three hundred health care and information technology students and professionals have been trained by Sinclair's Workforce Development Division over the last two and a half years in a new program designed to increase the number of Health Information Technology (HIT) workers in Ohio.

Sinclair was awarded funding to administer a grant as a member of the Midwest Community College HIT Consortia component of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service Office of the National Coordinator HIT Workforce Program.  The purpose of this two-year grant is: to help transition the nation to electronic health care records, help transition laid-off health care and information technology professionals to new careers and to build upon existing skills of incumbent workers.

The curriculum focuses on job-specific training that supports the implementation of electronic health records in the following two roles:

  • Implementation Support Specialist - Workers in this role provide on-site user support for the period of time before and during implementation of health IT systems in clinical and public health settings.  These individuals will provide support services, above and beyond what is provided by the vendor, to be sure the technology functions properly and is configured to meet the needs of the redesigned practice workflow.
  • Technical/Software Support Staff - Workers in this role support the technology deployed in clinical and public health settings.  These individuals maintain systems in clinical and public health settings, including patching and upgrading of software.  They also provide one-on-one support, in a traditional "help desk" model, to individual users with questions or problems.

You will find our application in the left column for your use in applying for the program.  Please send your applicationand resume via email to Brenda.latanza@sinclair.edu or fax to 513.339.0158.
