Frequently Asked Questions
regarding Professional Development during FY09

What are the Professional Development Guidelines?
The ODE website lists the requirements and options for FY09 and the Southwest ABLE Resource Center website offers the SWRC process for receiving financial support for PD and directions for participating in PD.

How are my PD requirements determined?
ODE requirements are based on two factors:

• The average number of working hours that you are paid through an ABLE grant (work less than 7 hours per week, or work 7 or more hours per week).

• The number of years employed by ABLE (less than 12 months, or more than one year)

How do I record my professional development choices
The Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) is the form available to record your choices. The form can be downloaded from the SWRC website. Once completed, the IPDP is given to program administrators to review. The administrator's signature, along with that of the staff member, indicates that the choices are appropriate for ABLE work. A copy of the IPDP is sent to the Resource Center.

What if I want to change my IPDP?
You can revise your IPDP during the year, but you need to have your administrator review and sign the form. To be eligible for financial support, you must have a current, signed IPDP on file with the Resource Center.

What is the difference between an incentive/participation payment and reimbursement?
An incentive is for payment of attendance; it is considered income. A reimbursement is payment for your out-of-pocket expenses for a conference or college course. You are not eligible for an incentive and reimbursement for the same event.

How much is an incentive?
The amount of the incentive is determined by the designation of the PD opportunity.

• Full-day event (4.5 or more hours) - $70.00

• Half-day event (2.5 up to 4.5 hours) - $35.00

How much is a reimbursement?
Reimbursement has clearly defined eligibility criteria and is limited to:

• Cost of tuition up to $250.00

• Cost associated with Conferences:
o State Conference up to $250.00
o National Conference up to $500.00

Note: Either of these items (conference, tuition) is considered a multi-day activity and meets your PD requirement for the year thus using all of your allotted financial support.

What forms are available?
PD # 1 - To request an incentive payment.

PD # 2 - To request a reimbursement payment.

PD # 1A (Alternative Delivery Form) - To request incentive for participating in alternative delivery PD.

How do I use Incentive/Participation Payment Form (PD#1)?

    o If Yes – Proceed

How to Use the Alternative Delivery Form (PD#1A)?
