Sinclair Community College’s Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Engineering Technology (HVACR ET) department offers a variety of programs in this diverse field. We offer courses covering topics in heating and ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, industrial ventilation, controls, system analysis and design using computers, project planning and estimation.
Through balanced studies in theory and practical, hands-on applications, our programs help you receive a well-rounded education that prepares you for professional careers and/or additional education in HVAC and refrigeration engineering technology.

Certificate Programs
Short Term Technical Certificates
HVAC Light Commercial and Residential Service
This certificate program in HVAC light commercial and residential service is intended for entry-level students or residential service technicians desiring careers as light commercial HVAC service technicians. The program is a hands-on troubleshooting and service program geared to the light commercial HVAC industry including convenience stores, restaurants, strip malls, and any other type of small business concern. While completing the program, students will learn the basics of heating, cooling, distribution and control of these systems. In addition, the hands-on component of the program utilizes the types of equipment actually installed in the field.
Upon completion, graduates will: understand operating characteristics of basic HVAC systems; understand troubleshooting techniques and be able to apply them to troubleshooting typical operating and maintenance problems in HVAC systems; and, understand the role and function of basic equipment as applied in HVAC systems. This particular certificate emphasizes skills needed to be service and installation technicians. However, graduates are also able to move into sales, become lab technicians, or enter many other career paths.

Degree Programs
Associate of Applied Science - Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration
This degree is designed for entry-level students pursuing careers in the HVAC&R industries, as well as experienced technicians in need of upgrade training. The program focuses on the basic operating principles of commercial and industrial HVAC systems, allowing one to pursue careers in sales, service, design, facilities operation, project management, or as a laboratory technician for an equipment manufacturer. These principles are presented through lecture and laboratory exercises in a step-by-step fashion by addressing refrigeration, heating, distribution, filtration and control as individual subsystems. Upper level courses tie the subsystems together to discuss how they interact, providing the HVACR technician or designer with a wealth of knowledge regarding proper system operation. Accreditation by the Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET*, Inc. insures program quality and facilitates acceptance graduates who desire to pursue a bachelor's degree.

Articulation & Transfer Agreements
Sinclair works directly with many four-year schools in Ohio and beyond to ensure the college credit you earn will transfer easily to those schools. By developing articulation agreements, formal agreements between colleges detailing the recognition of college credit between the schools, you will know you are meeting the requirements needed at the four-year school of your choice. Ohio Transfer Module
The Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science degree programs fulfill the requirements for the Ohio Transfer Module at other public colleges and universities. Students in applied associate degree programs may complete some individual transfer module courses within their degree program or continue beyond their program to complete the entire transfer module.
