The hospitality management and tourism programs at Sinclair can get you started in the right direction, from running a first class hotel to a five-star restaurant. With our educational options, you can specialize in any number of fields that are in demand in the Dayton, Ohio area and around the world.

Even if you do not want to complete an entire program, there are baking, cooking, and nutrition courses available for personal interest or career development students. General Certificates

Food Service Management

The food service management certificate program combines classroom instruction and laboratory experience in food preparation and service for the restaurant and lodging industry. The curriculum includes the National Restaurant Association ProManagement courses that lead to the ProManagement certificate.

Upon completion of this program, you will be able to: exhibit a positive attitude and work habits in hospitality management occupations; incorporate quantitative food techniques while meeting company food cost objectives; utilize qualitative food techniques while insuring proper nutrition; identify the micro-organisms and teach employees proper sanitation techniques; and, display a working knowledge of hospitality equipment and use this to produce efficiency in kitchen operations.

Short Term Technical Certificates

Bakery Specialist

The bakery arts specialist certificate program provides valuable baking education through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience. It is designed to prepare students who would like to be employed as professional bakers. The processes and skills taught in this certificate program can also benefit those with some culinary experience who would like to advanced their knowledge in the specialized baking area.

Upon completion of this program, you will be able to: perform work as a bakery arts specialist in a safe and sanitary manner; perform work in a professional manner; and demonstrate the skilled needed in basic bakery processes.

Degree Programs

Associate of Applied Science - Hospitality Management & Tourism*

Accredited by the American Culinary Federation Foundation Accrediting Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Hospitality Management Programs, this program prepares students in supervisory skills, cost controls and human relation skills needed to manage lodging, restaurants, meetings and event planning or tourism operations.

Efficient and profitable operation of these businesses requires managers to recruit, train, and supervise an adequate number of employees. Employment opportunities for lodging, restaurant, resort, private club entry level managers, conventions and visitor centers, travel agents, and meeting and event planners are available to graduates of the hospitality management and tourism program.

Tourism Concentration

Similar to the degree program without a concentration, this program provides you with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage many business and activities within the travel and tourism industry. However, this program provides a much more in-depth education in tourism and hospitality by focusing on the core competencies needed to work in the industry.

This degree program prepares you for a career in a wide array of hospitality and tourism professions, including lodging, conventions and destination services management, food service, travel and tourism, and recreation-related industries to name a few.

Hotel Lodging Concentration

Similar to the degree program without a concentration, this program provides you with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage many business and activities within the travel and tourism industry. However, this program provides a much more in-depth education in tourism and hotel lodging by focusing on the core competencies needed to work in the the hotel industry.

The hotel/lodging career concentration prepares you for an entry-level position in the industry. The coursework includes specific courses related to the hotel industry, such as reservations/computer systems, housekeeping, and operations of both small and large hotel/lodging facilities, in addition to business courses that are essential to success in the industry.

Meeting & Event Planning Concentration

Similar to the degree program without a concentration, this program provides you with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage many business and activities within the travel and tourism industry. However, the Meeting and Event Planning career concentration assists you in gaining knowledge in all aspects of planning and staging meetings or special events.

The curriculum includes basic knowledge of understanding the client’s needs, developing a program, site selection, negotiating contracts, using multimedia and speakers, registration, meeting logistics, post event activities, and professionalism. In this program, you will complete and present a full proposal and provide all information regarding the staging of an event to prepare you for the workforce.

Culinary Arts

Accredited by the American Culinary Federation Foundation Accrediting Commission, this specialized program allows you to develop extensive skills and knowledge of food preparation and presentation. You will gain a complete understanding of the duties and responsibilities of a chef and other culinary personnel.

A culinary professional can work as a chef, cook, pastry chef, sous chef, or even among production personnel and event caterers. Our program’s graduates are able to enter this rapidly growing field worldwide at fine restaurants, clubs, hotels, and healthcare facilities.

Articulation & Transfer Agreements

Sinclair works directly with many four-year schools in Ohio and beyond to ensure the college credit you earn will transfer easily to those schools. By developing articulation agreements, formal agreements between colleges detailing the recognition of college credit between the schools, you will know you are meeting the requirements needed at the four-year school of your choice. Ohio Transfer Module

The Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science degree programs fulfill the requirements for the Ohio Transfer Module at other public colleges and universities. Students in applied associate degree programs may complete some individual transfer module courses within their degree program or continue beyond their program to complete the entire transfer module.
