The Allied Health department at Sinclair Community College provides you with a variety of certificate programs in the health care field. These certificate programs are intended for individuals who are already working in health care and/or are current students looking to supplement their academic programs with addition skills and certifications.
In addition, our department works closely with the medical facilities and practitioners in the Dayton and Miami Valley area. This relationship helps us to prepare you for the needs of the local health care industry.
Allied health offers certificate programs to train you to become a clinical phlebotomist, electrocardiograph (EKG) technician, or pharmacy technician.
This program might be for you if:
- You currently work in one of our offered specializations in the health care field and would like to earn your pharmacy technician certification.
- You are enrolled in another life and health science program and would like to supplement your education with addition skills.
- You are looking to gain experience in one of our certificate fields of study, including clinical hours.
Individuals who seek further certification and education are often more prepared to advance within their current profession. The decision to garner new skills and clinical experience assists graduates in making their skills more marketable to the health care industry, which is always evolving and in search of experienced job candidates.
Certificate Programs
Short-term Technical Certificate
Clinical Phlebotomy
This certificate is intended to provide expanded competencies and proficiencies to practicing professionals, students enrolled in health science programs, and entry level skills to accommodate special situation individuals. The students will be required to complete 100 hours of non-paid clinicals during ALH 137. Students who complete this course will receive a certificate of completion.

Electrocardiography
This course is intended to provide expanded skills among health care professionals as well as current ALH students to increase marketability for employment. Classes held in the evening with clinicals during the day. Students who complete this course will receive a certificate of completion.

Nurse Aide Training

Pharmacy Technician Certification
This program prepares individuals to perform the technical and specialized skills of a pharmacy technician within retail and mail order settings, hospital pharmacies, nursing homes and home health care sites. The program is designed to develop knowledge and understanding of basic pharmacology, maintenance of patient records, drug-product preparation and distribution, and recordkeeping. A portion of this program will involve on-site internships at participating pharmacies. Upon completion of the program students may take the Pharmacy Tech Board Examination I.

Specimen Processing Short
The Specimen Processing certificate prepares students for entry level employment in the clinical laboratory setting performing specimen collection, quality assurance and other techniques fundamental to specimen processing. The program is designed to develop knowledge and understanding of medical terminology, lab rules and regulations, and universal precautions for a clinical laboratory.

Articulation & Transfer Agreements
Sinclair works directly with many four-year schools in Ohio and beyond to ensure the college credit you earn will transfer easily to those schools. By developing articulation agreements, formal agreements between colleges detailing the recognition of college credit between the schools, you will know you are meeting the requirements needed at the four-year school of your choice. Ohio Transfer Module
The Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science degree programs fulfill the requirements for the Ohio Transfer Module at other public colleges and universities. Students in applied associate degree programs may complete some individual transfer module courses within their degree program or continue beyond their program to complete the entire transfer module.
Upon completion of the Ohio Transfer Module, students will be able to enter most Ohio four-year colleges and universities as a junior with your general education requirements completed. Find out more about the Ohio Transfer Module »
