August Wilson's Fences: A Staged Reading

Set in the 1950s, Fences is the sixth in Wilson's ten-part "Pittsburgh Cycle". Like all of the "Pittsburgh" plays, Fences explores the evolving African-American experience and examines race relations, among other themes. The play won the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 1987 Tony Award for Best Play.

A 2010 revival on Broadway starred Denzel Washington  and Viola Davis  as the married couple struggling with changing U.S. race relations.The revival was nominated for ten Tony Awards, winning three for Best Revival of a Play, Best Actor in a Play (Denzel Washington), and Best Actress in a Play (Viola Davis). 

Directed by Music, Theatre and Dance chair, Gina Neuerer, this production features six current Sinclair African-American theatre majors: Shaun Diggs, Bryana Bentley, Antonio Davis, Andre Tomlinson, Tristan Rivera and Naman Clark.
