Student my.Sinclair Reference Guide (10-16-06)

Log In

Go to http://my.sinclair.edu, enter your network username and password. A picture of the my.Sinclair login screen is below.

 

 

 

Once you are logged in, you will see the my.Sinclair main screen. This is your homepage that can be customized to reflect your personal preferences.

 



There are tabs, links, and buttons on the top of the screen that direct you to different services or areas within the Portal system.

 

 

 

There are also buttons on the side of the portal screen that direct you to different services within the portal.

 

  1. Home - use this button to return to your portal Home page.

  2. Log Off - click on this button to log out of the portal.

  3. Help - use this button to access help resources for the portal.

  4. WebAdvisor - click this button to access the WebAdvisor application to check your class schedule, grades etc.

  5. my.Sinclair Mail - use this button to access your student email account.

  6. Preferences - click this button to change your Preferences settings such personal information, password, portal theme etc.

  7. Instant Messenger (IM) - use this button to use the IM application within the portal. NOTE: The IM application requires you to download a Java application in order to use this service. The IM service is only available while logged into the my.Sinclair portal.

 

Important Note about Timeouts: The my.Sinclair portal will 'timeout' after a period of nonuse. This means that if you leave your computer or stop working in the portal you will be automatically logged out after a period of inactivity. When you return to the my.Sinclair page, you will be redirected to the my.Sinclair login screen and will need to login again. This is a security feature to protect your account.

Important Note about the Single Sign-On Feature in my.Sinclair: Because the Single Sign-On feature in my.Sinclair will provide access to all web applications available you after the initial log on to my.Sinclair, logging out of my.Sinclair once a session is complete is extremely important. To ensure the account security, log out of my.Sinclair completely by clicking the “Logout” button in the top left section of the my.Sinclair screen and then close the browser window. NOTE: Some my.Sinclair web applications will open in their own browser window, be sure to close these extra browser windows also when you are done.


Home Page

Your my.Sinclair home page is the 1st page that opens when you log into the portal.

 

 

You can customize your Home page by click on the Edit Page link in the top left corner of the page.

 

 

The Home Layout page will open.

 

 

You can add components such as a Calculator, Google, Bookmarks etc. Directions for adding components are found at the top of the screen.

 

 

You can also remove a component by clicking on the X in its box.

 

 

You can also move and change the positions of the components by holding your cursor over and clicking on a component box.

 

 

Always click on the Save button after making changes to your Home page or the changes will not be saved.

 

 

 


Online File Repository

You also have an online file repository. It available through the Toolbox component under the Files link.

NOTE: Your file repository is 10 MB in size.

 

 

Click on Add Content to add files and folders to your file repository.

 

 

 

Click on the link for the task you wish to complete in your repository.

 

 


 

Courses

You can also access resources for your classes through the my.Sinclair portal. Courses in which you are currently enrolled with be listed on your Home page. Click on them to access any available resources.

 

 

The course's portal page will open. Course announcements are shown at the right of the screen. To access course resources such as the syllabus, lessons etc., click on the Map link at the bottom left of the screen.

 

 

After clicking on the Map link, the Course Map Navigation bar will appear on the left side of the screen. Click on the individual links to access the course resources.

 

 

NOTE: The course instructor is responsible for placing course materials/resources into the course on my.Sinclair.

 

For additional help in using the course resources in my.Sinclair, click on the help button in the right side navigation bar. A help file created by the Angel Learning System company will open. This help file is searchable on topics related to the portal software.

Click on the Technical Help Desk box at the top of the my.Sinclair window to access the Help Desk's web page.

 

 

 

Click on a help button in the left side navigation bar to access a help file created by the Angel Software system company.

 

 


 

Security is Important. Don’t Forget to Log Out.

 

Because the Single Sign-On feature in my.Sinclair will provide access to all web applications available to you after the initial log on to my.Sinclair, logging out of my.Sinclair once a session is complete is extremely important.

 

To ensure the account security, log out of my.Sinclair completely by clicking the “Logout” button in the top left section of the my.Sinclair screen or the "Logout" link in the top right of the my.Sinclair screen.

 

 

 

 

Then close the browser window.

 

NOTE: Some my.Sinclair web applications will open in their own browser window, be sure to close these extra browser windows also when you are done.
