Student Email Reference Guide (10-16-06)

Getting Started

Log into the Portal, http://my.sinclair.edu to access your student email account. Enter your my.Sinclair username and password. A picture of the my.Sinclair login screen is below.

 

NOTE: Student employees should enter their network usernames and passwords to login to my.Sinclair.


 

 

Once logged into http://my.sinclair.edu, click on either the my.Sinclair Mail tab in the top my.Sinclair window.

 

 

Or the my.Sinclair Mail link on the left hand side of the my.Sinclair screen to access your student mail.

 

 

NOTE: The Single Sign-On feature in my.Sinclair is used to log you into my.Sinclair mail. No additional usernames or passwords are needed to access my.Sinclair Mail.

 

Important Note about Timeouts: The my.Sinclair portal will 'timeout' after a period of nonuse. This means that if you leave your computer or stop working in the portal you will be automatically logged out after a period of inactivity. When you return to the my.Sinclair page, you will be redirected to the my.Sinclair login screen and will need to login again. This is a security feature to protect your account.

Important Note about the Single Sign-On Feature in my.Sinclair: Because the Single Sign-On feature in my.Sinclair will provide access to all web applications available you after the initial log on to my.Sinclair, logging out of my.Sinclair once a session is complete is extremely important. To ensure the account security, log out of my.Sinclair completely by clicking the “Logout” button in the top left section of the my.Sinclair screen and then close the browser window. NOTE: Some my.Sinclair web applications will open in their own browser window, be sure to close these extra browser windows also when you are done.

 


Welcome Screen

After clicking on the my.Sinclair Mail link, you will see a Welcome screen that displays important information about your email account. Be sure to read this important information. Click on the Continue button (circled below) to enter the main mail screen or wait a few seconds to be automatically forwarded to the main mail screen.

 

 

 

 


Mail Menu

You will then see the Mail Main Menu page.

 

 

 

  1. Your Email Address is posted here.
  1. Help: Click here to access some Help documentation.
   
  1. Account Options: Click here to access options for managing your mail account.
  1. Folder: Click here to open individual folders in your mailbox.
   
  1. View Mail: Click here to view messages in your Inbox.
  1. Size: Total size of all messages contained in a folder is listed here.
   
  1. Compose: Click here to compose or draft an email message.
  1. Message Count: Total number of messages contained in each folder is listed here. 
   
  1. Search: Click here to search the contents of you mail.
  1. Help Desk Assistance Form: Click here to access form to request my.Sinclair mail help from the IT Help Desk.
   
The Mail options above are described in detail below.

 

1. Your Email Address

 

Your email address format is nickname.lastname@my.sinclair.edu (firstname.lastname@my.sinclair.edu if a nickname is not used).

 

 

2. Account Options

 

This box gives you access to all the options used to manage your my.Sinclair mail. Important options include Preferences, Address Book, My Signature, Filters, and Forwarding. Click on the option's name to go to its screen and set the option.

 

 

3. View Mail

 

Click View Mail to look at the content's of your Inbox.

 

4. Compose

 

Click here to compose a new mail message.

 

 

5. Search

 

Click here to search the contents of your my.Sinclair mail folders.

 

 

6. Help

 

Click here to access my.Sinclair mail help technical documentation.

 

 

7. Folder

 

The Folder box lists the names of all folders contained in your my.Sinclair mailbox. Click on an individual folder's name to access its contents.

 

 

8. Size

 

In the Size Column (A.), the size of all contents in a folder are listed. Below that the Account Size (B.) lists the total mailbox account size. There is a total mailbox size limit of 10 MB (C.).

NOTE:
Email attachments (both incoming and outgoing) are limited to 2 MB in size.

 

 

9. Message Count

 

Message Count lists the total number of messages in each folder in your my.Sinclair mailbox.

Forwarding Mail

If you wish to forward your my.Sinclair mail to a different email system, please forward it to that address by selecting Forwarding from the Account Options pull-down menu and entering that forwarding address.

 

 

 

 

NOTE: Sinclair will be sending all email to your my.Sinclair account. Please ensure that you get that important information by using our system or by forwarding your mail.

 

 


 

Saving Mail

You may save email in your account but remember that your total account size (including saved mail, sent mail, attachments etc.) is limited to 10 MB (megabytes) of storage space. You will be notified by the system when your account is 90% full.

 

Any mail older than 90 days will be deleted by the system. Other options for saving mail include:

 

 


Security is Important. Don’t Forget to Log Out.

 

Because the Single Sign-On feature in my.Sinclair will provide access to all web applications available to you after the initial log on to my.Sinclair, logging out of my.Sinclair once a session is complete is extremely important.
