What is BIS at Sinclair?
The personal computer technology and the growth of information telecommunications are reshaping the today’s business office and the role of the end user and information worker. The Business Information Systems department is dedicated to providing career programs that prepare students for employment as well as allowing an existing computer end user or office professional to upgrade skills. The program also helps the community meet employment needs. The BIS department's degree and certificate programs combines instruction in the traditional area of office responsibilities support with the current technology of personal computers and a wide range of the most commonly used business software packages.
What do BIS students learn?
Students will acquire an understanding of up-to-date state-of-the-art personal computers, related computer technology, and maintenance of a personal computer system. Students gain experience in up-to-date current end user software packages applications (spreadsheet, word processing, database, presentation graphics, and desktop publishing), software applications, computer operations, and business uses of the Internet. Business professionals communicate in ways other than face-to-face or through the traditional telephone conversation. Networks, modems, digital lines, fiber optics, and wireless transmissions and other technologies used in business and industry are studied in.

BIS programs:
Students will be introduced to the higher level reasoning skills sought by employers of office systems professionals: business ethics, critical thinking, oral communications, decision making, office procedures, and goal setting.
