Outcomes

  • Develop self-awareness through examination of biases, values, and beliefs. Identify potential ethical concerns regarding competence and boundary violations, as well as dual and multiple relationships during and after the professional, clinical relationships have ended.
  • Identify components of confidentiality including informed consent, exceptions to confidentiality, "Duty to Warn" and Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Identify components of various ethical codes including locating one's own code of ethics.
  • Develop a personal code of professional behavior including awareness of the ethical codes and scope of competency for chosen profession. Use the model of ethical decision making identified in the course.
