Outcomes

  • Comprehend a variety of materials. Use compound and complex sentences to express him/herself in more than one tense. Understand French spoken by native speakers.
  • Employ majority of tenses, moods, grammatical features, and more complex structures (e.g., use of relative conjunctions) in the French language.
  • Understand the history and scope of the culture of French-speaking countries and compare/contrast it with other cultures in several fundamental areas. Make cultural comparisons between their own culture and another culture. Use original materials (short articles, pages from books) to support new assertions (limited research projects).
  • Read new materials (newspaper and magazine articles, contemporary literature, and other non-technical writings) limited in length and scope on specific topics in culture and literature, without dependence on a dictionary, picking out main ideas and related arguments. Write a short paper with description, narration, summarization, and development of original arguments.
