EFD 1302 Expanded Functions for Dental Auxiliaries II

This course is the third in a three-part series for the Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary Program. Greater emphasis on topics covered in EFD 1202 is examined. Detailed concepts with regards to amalgam, esthetic and preventive resins are discussed. Concepts involving Class IV resin restorations and dental sealants are introduced. Mock boards are included. Three classroom, four lab hours per week, plus ten hours of co-op experience per week in a dental office.

Outcomes

  • Develop a professional philosophy for EFDA practice incorporating a commitment to lifelong learning and continuing education and apply the rules of the Ohio Administrative Code and OSHA as they apply in the dental setting.
  • Demonstrate practical application of the dental skills and principles described in an approved dental office/clinical site under the direct supervision of a dentist, and in accordance with the affiliation agreement between the affiliate and Sinclair Community College.
  • Discuss the techniques for the placement of Class IV composite restorations in the preclinical and clinical environment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, skills and behavior in all restorative procedures and techniques involved in the placement of metallic and composite resin restorations for Class I, II, III, IV, V restorations.
  • Assess and evaluate restorative care as it applies to restorations in congruence with the Commission on Dental Testing in Ohio, and display didactic knowledge required for the written portion of the exam.
  • Discuss the indications for use of dental sealants, types of sealant material, techniques used in application of sealants, and the reason for sealant failure.
