CAT 2411 Architectural Practice, Codes & Laws
Building code history, development, application and review processes. Analysis of existing building to determine code status, form recommendations and make presentation. Examine Ohio law impacting various codes, safety, contracting and personnel issues with regard to built environment professions. Develop sample contract specifications. Two classroom, two lab hours per week.

Outcomes
- Investigate and summarize legal implications of built environment law, including ownership, contracting, and operation. Compare and contrast legal responsibilities with ethical issues, including responsibility for public health, safety, and welfare.
- Describe the origin and development of including building and zoning codes and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Compare and contrast enforcement of codes, applicability, and jurisdictional issues.
- Describe the building permitting process at a local jurisdiction.
- Become familiar with a Master Format project manual, identifying significant components, and developing a sample specification section.
- Compare and contrast project delivery methods. Identify appropriate contracts and related documents utilizing a standard format and workflow.
