CAT 1241 Building Systems
Basic mechanical and electrical system design principles for residential and commercial structures. Structural engineering principles for designing residential and commercial structures using wood, steel and concrete. Research appropriate building codes and apply knowledge to solve engineering challenges. Two classroom, two lab hours per week.

Outcomes
- Develop three-dimensional structural modeling skills in Revit, applying appropriate Building Information Modeling (BIM) terminology and philosophy.
- Develop knowledge of steel, concrete and wood structural concepts and applications for residential and commercial buildings.
- Develop knowledge of basic structural, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and fire protection principles, applying the framework of the Ohio Building Code and Residential Code of Ohio as appropriate.
- Learn how construction type and occupancy choices determine height and the area limitations of buildings, determining built environment characteristics.
