Sinclair Women’s basketball team, drawing a number three seed, played their opening round game at home Tuesday night against the number six seed from Cleveland, Cuyahoga College. Sinclair secured the three spot with a close win at Lakeland College this past Saturday and enter the tournament with a 15-11 record. Cuyahoga comes in with a record of 9-15 and has played well in the last half of the season and in the conference.

The first half saw some outstanding defense by Cuyahoga and poor inside play by The Lady Pride, and with 12:00 remaining Cuyahoga held a seven point lead. Sinclair chipped away and would tie the score going into halftime at 28.

The second half would start with a 5-0 Sinclair run, and it would stand all the way to the end as Sinclair would come out on top 63-55. Free throws were the key, as Sinclair hit some key makes when it needed them.

Leading the way for Sinclair were two sophomore players, Brandi McDaniel (Franklin H.S.) with 20 points and nine rebounds and Danielle Forrer (Troy Christian H.S.) with 13 points and five assists. The Lady Pride raise their record to 16-11 overall and will take on the number five team in the country, Owens College on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The game will be on the campus of Owens College as they host the District I Championships.
