The NCAA Region XII, District 7, Men’s Basketball Championship tournament opens today at Sinclair. Just this week the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference named its men’s and women’s 2009 All Conference Team Members. Several Sinclair men and women players made the team or received honorable mention honors.
On the men’s side, Sinclair basketball guard/forward and Dunbar High School grad Mark Anderson is being honored as the Conference Player of the Year. As such he is a member of the OCCAC First Team. Mark is one of the few players in conference history to win the honor both his freshman and sophomore years. On the men’s OCCAC Second Team is Sinclair guard Jonathon Tate, a graduate of Ben Davis High School, Indianapolis.
It should be noted too that one of two Co-Coaches of the Year is Columbus State Community College Head Coach Pat Carlisle. He is the son of Tom Carlisle, longtime Sinclair Professor of Operations Technology. The Columbus State team is currently ranked first in the nation and is the # 1 seed in this weekend’s tournament at Sinclair. Congratulations Tom!
On the women’s side the OCCAC has named one Sinclair lady to its First Team and two others received Honorable Mention. Sinclair sophomore guard and Vandalia Butler High School graduate Amanda White has been named to the First Team. Sinclair freshman guard and Xenia High School graduate Chelcie Gullett and freshman forward and Tippecanoe High School grad Jessica Pierre both received Honorable Mention honors.
A reminder that the #4 seeded Sinclair men’s team opens NJCAA District 7 tournament play at home this evening at 5:00 p.m. against #5 seeded Lakeland Community College.
