Sinclair Names Manager of Advanced Engineering and Manufacturing Solutions

Dayton, Ohio -- Donna Hoying has been appointed as Manager, Advanced Engineering and Manufacturing Solutions at Sinclair Community College. The appointment, effective November 2, was announced by Deborah Norris, VP Workforce Development & Corporate Services.

“Donna Hoying brings to Sinclair deep experience in engineering and Lean process improvement. She has been instrumental in creating significant client relationships with the Community Blood Center and Community Tissue Services, Smiths Aerospace (now GE Aviation) and LJB, Inc.,” noted Norris.

Hoying (Centerville) joined the Advanced Integrated Manufacturing (AIM) Center in Spring 1999. Most recently she served as the Senior Project Manager for Lean Manufacturing. Hoying’s new position includes oversight of the AIM Center as well as focusing on creating non-credit training offerings in the advanced engineering and manufacturing areas.

Hoying received a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University. She attended Kaizen training at the Kaizen institute with Yoshiki Iwata and Chihiro Nakao. Before joining the AIM Center, Hoying worked at Delphi as a Lean Manufacturing Engineer, implementing Lean in the plant and office areas as well as with suppliers. She led a Delphi team to reduce the lead-time for its budget process by 43%. William Sherkenbach published this example in his book, Deming’s Road to Continual Improvement.

As Senior Project Manager for Lean Manufacturing, Hoying developed and delivered hands-on implementation workshops and kaizen events for many Lean topics, including Lean Office, Value Stream Mapping, 5S, and Setup Reduction. She has also provided executive coaching for companies, including Smiths Aerospace.

In August 2005, Hoying began working on the Lean Certification committee for the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), American Manufacturing Engineers (AME) and Shingo Prize Award organizations. She developed the Lean Bronze Certification Review Course and delivered it for the first time at a SME conference in Los Angeles in 2005. In October 2006, Hoying was recognized by SME, AME and Shingo Prize organizations for her outstanding contribution to the development of the Lean Certification Program. Her portfolio was approved at the Gold level in May 2006 and she became Lean Bronze Certified in September 2006.
