Saving Files to my.sinclair
FIRST: Save your document to the Desktop or a disk and then close Microsoft Word. If your file is still open, you will not be able to save it online.

To save to the Desktop:

  • Select “File” from the tool bar, then click on “Save as…”
  • Click on “Desktop” on the list at the left of the saving window or select it from the dropdown menu.
  • Click on “Save.”
To save a document to your my.sinclair account:
  1. Go to the Sinclair Community College website. (This should be the first page that opens through Internet Explorer on most computers on campus. Off campus, type http://my.sinclair.edu in your browser bar.)
  2. Log in to your my.sinclair account.
  3. Find the “Tool Box” section of your home page. (It will be on the right hand side of the screen.)
  4. In the Tool Box menu, click “Files.”
  5. Click “Add Content.” (This is located in the upper left of your screen.)
  6. Click “Upload Files.”
  7. Click “Browse.”
  8. A new window will open. Select your document from the list, and then click “Open.” (If you saved your document to the desktop, it should appear on the list automatically. Otherwise, select the drive in which you saved your file from the dropdown menu at the top of the window – A: for a floppy disk, C: for the hard drive, etc. - and click on your document.)
  9. Click “Upload file.”
  10. Click “Done.”
Your document is now saved to your my.sinclair account, and you can access it from your account on any computer connected to the internet, on or off campus.

REMEMBER: If you saved your document to the Desktop of a computer on campus, please drag and drop your file into the recycle bin before leaving the computer. Otherwise, other students could access your work! (Documents saved to Writing Center computers are automatically deleted at the end of each day.)

To access files saved to your my.sinclair account:
  1. Log in to your my.sinclair account.
  2. Select “Files” in the Toolbox menu on the right hand side of your homepage.
  3. Click on the name of your document.
  4. Click “Open.”
You can now print or make changes to your document. Notice that your file opens in Internet Explorer. To make changing your document easier, save the file to the desktop first, then open it from there. To do so, click on the "save" button instead of the "open" button.
