Word has a useful feature to quickly create six common diagrams:

Organizational Chart

Shows heirarchial relationships

Cycle Diagram

Show a process with a continuous cycle

Radial Diagrams

Shows relationships around a core element

Pyramid Diagrams

Shows foundation relationships

Venn Diagrams

Shows areas of overlap between elements

Target Diagram

Shows steps toward a goal

To create one of these, go to INSERT | DIAGRAM on the menu. It will open the "diagram gallery." Simply choose one, customize it with the tool bar and label it with text. In ten minutes, tops, you'll have a nice looking diagram.
