The Works Cited pages are placed at the end of the research paper. As with all other pages, the page number will be in the top right hand corner. In addition, everything on the page will be double spaced as is the rest of the paper.
The first line on the page will contain the words 'Works Cited," centered, and with no bold, italic, or underline attributes. Do not place a colon after the word 'Cited.'
The first entry will begin on line two of the page. Use the hanging indent feature (set at one half inch) of MS Word to set up your formatting. Only use the enter key at the end of each reference and let the word processor do the formatting for you--it's much easier. If you need to break a refererence to force a new line, use the insert nonbreaking space feature in Word.
Your references will need to be in alphabetical order, but don't fret, Word can do that for you with a few mouse clicks using the table sort feature after you are done.
Each reference consists of up to five separate components--the author field, the title field, the paper publication field, the electronic publication field and the Internet field arranged like this:
Author Field. "Title Field." Paper Publication Field. Electronic Publicaton Field. <Internet Field>.
Depending on what is to be cited, the author, title, and internet field may be optional, however at least one publication field is always required.
The following pages will give some guidance on how to set these up.
