Overly Narrow Definition

Overly narrow definition occurs when a writer's definition does not include items that should be included.

Example:

Fine wine is identified by its characteristic red color. (What about the excellent whites?)

Strategy: Identify the item being defined along with its characteristics.  Demonstrate by example that at least one item exists which fits the characteristics but hasn't been included.
