Conflicting Conditions

The fallacy of conflicting conditions occurs when a writer creates a definition which has one or more attributes that cannot be true at the same time and are thus self-contradictory.

Example:

Daytime is when you can see the sun but no stars. (The sun is a star)

Strategy: Identify the various attributes of the problematic definition. Demonstrate that at least one is false when at least one is true.
