ACADEMIC CENTERS

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I schedule an appointment with a tutor?
Currently, all of the tutoring done in the Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC) is done on a drop in basis.
What if I just have a question or two?
The staff of the TLC understands the materials presented in English, reading, and basic mathematics programs. Although they cannot take appointments or sit with a student for a lengthy period of time, they can spend between 5-15 minutes going over a few problems or explaining a concept.
Where is the Tutoring and Learning Center located?
The TLC is located in the Library in the southwest corner at the base of the bell tower. Students can enter the upper level of the Library through the basement levels of buildings 1 through 7 and then can use the southeast or northeast glass staircases to access the Library level one floor below. Access can also be obtained through the east elevator in building 7 (push L for lower level).
What is the Tutoring and Learning Center?
The Tutoring and Learning Center is a student resource which provides professional tutoring in the subject areas of English grammar and writing, reading text marking and note taking strategies, and basic math. Most of the professional tutors are faculty members here at Sinclair or other colleges and are experts in their content areas. The Center also provides additional quiet computer areas for students, access to faculty-approved online resources in the same content areas, and supplemental learning materials in the forms of videos, worksheets, and handouts.
Where can I get a tutor on a scheduled basis?
Tutors are available through Tutorial Services, located in the Library. In order to be assigned a tutor on a scheduled basis, the student must obtain a referral form from Tutorial Services, which they fill out and have their instructor complete and sign. Then their schedule will be matched with a tutor's. Students with learning disabilities, who are registered with Disability Services, need only obtain a form from Disability Services and file it with Tutorial Services to receive a total of four sessions per week.
