Head Coach David Pence
During his years on the men’s tennis team at Sinclair Community College, David Pence earned the title of All American at the NJCAA National Tournament in 1993. Coach Pence won over 90% of his singles matches and achieved the regional title in doubles and singles by 1995.
Coach Pence graduated from the University of Dayton in education with the degree emphasis on exercise science. He achieved his Masters degree in Health and Sport Studies from Miami University in 1999. In 2002, he was named Regional Coach of the year after leading the Tartans to a championship and making it to 9th in the Nation.
After Coach Pence’s collegiate years in 1999, he was ranked in the top ten of the USTA Midwest Section 35-45 age division.
Coach Pence holds many different certifications including: Personal Training through the American Council on Exercise (ACE); Health and Fitness Specialist through the American College of Exercise (ACSM); Teaching Pro through the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) and participates in the annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s annual meeting as well as many other workshops.
Coach Pence has been committed to community efforts such as the Dayton Miami valley Senior Olympics, Making Strides against Breast Cancer, YMCA Kid’s Day and more. He and his athletes and students help out by organizing events and participating in raising money for charity making sure to emphasize that one must give back to their community to be a success.
In addition to coaching the Tartan Tennis Team, Coach Pence has been teaching full time for over 10 years and helps students succeed by finding a passion and developing plans to reach all their goals for the future. Coach Pence follows the Athletic department’s vision for all his athletes to succeed in the 3 C’s: Classroom, Community & Competition.
