TARTAN ATHLETICS

Coach Jeff Price

Head Coach

Jeff PriceJeff Price, 41, was named the Tartans’ 5th head coach July 2003.  Now in his third year, the framework has been set for a solid educational foundation as well as the re-birth of a competitive NJCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Program.  Although the overall wins and loses would indicate a down first year, a number of very positive events occurred during the 2003-04 season.  As with other Coach Price teams, Sinclair was well prepared and played hard every night.  Big victories were earned on the road at nationally ranked Owens (7th), at home against the 2003-04 National Champions – Cuyahoga and against Columbus State that came into Sinclair with a 25-0 record and the #1 National ranking in NJCAA.

Sinclair’s second year under price continued on the same successful path that was forged in that first year.  Once again beating nationally ranked Columbus State (#14) and Owens (#3) as well as losing a hard fought contest at #10 ranked Mott C.C. in Flint, MI.  One eye opening victory came at the University of North Carolina on December 12th.  By a score of 83-61, Sinclair defeated the UNC-JV team in Chapel Hill, NC before a varsity UNC game with Loyola University.  A much improved record of 20-9 evened Coach Prices’ two year coaching record at 26-26.

Price first joined the collegiate coaching fraternity during the 1991-92 season as the men’s assistant basketball coach for Davis & Elkins College.  He quickly established himself as one of the top up and coming small college basketball coaches in NCAA Division II. Working with a very limited scholarship budget, Price found that hard work along with a solid educational emphasis; he could recruit the type of student-athlete that wanted that spot in the classroom as well as the spot on the floor. The following year, he accepted the head coaching duties as men’s golf coach in addition to his duties as men’s assistant basketball coach.  With one solid recruiting class after another and a very aggressive and creative schedule, the framework for how to build a quality athletic program at the small college level fell into place.  By the end of his tenure as golf coach, Price had built one of the top 25 NCAA Division II golf programs in country.  During his last two years at D&E, Price accepted the head coaching position as the Women’s Basketball Coach.  Again, signing top quality players as well as putting a well-prepared and fundamentally sound team on the floor every night, the re-building formula continued to work.   Price also held several NCAA committee positions which included the position of Chairperson for NCAA Division II National Championship Selections for Men’s Golf from 1996-99

Before coming to Sinclair, Coach Price had a short stop at Earlham College for the 1999-2000 year.  During his brief stay with the Quakers, he helped lead the program to a berth in the NCAC Final Four.

In addition to his head coaching duties, Price has served for the last Six years as the Corporate Manager for Schear Family Practice and has held the position of Board of Trustees President for the Brown Memorial Library in Preble County.  During his coaching career, Coach Price has hosted his own basketball camps as well as being under contract with a number of high profile basketball camps such as University of Dayton, University of Michigan, Marshall University, University of Louisville, Central Michigan University and Wright State University.

A native of Preble County, Price graduated from Twin Valley North H.S. and went on to graduate from Marshall University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
