Young Scholars Program

Young Scholars

Young Scholars began in 1991 as a Saturday morning academic readiness program for under-represented, first-generation students in Montgomery County, Ohio. Twenty-seven years later, the program has evolved into a college and career readiness program and continues to target those students with the greatest need.

Current Programming

Young Scholars currently meet throughout the academic year on Saturday mornings from 9:00 AM to 12:00 p.m. In addition, students are given the opportunity to participate in various community and cultural events. Students are also required to meet for Advisory sessions twice a year with Young Scholars Staff.

Eligibility

Applicants are First Generation College students (parent or guardian has NOT earned a higher level degree) who reside in Montgomery County, and complete their eight grade year with a 2.5 or higher.

Applications are accepted and reviewed during the spring of a student’s eight grade year. Students must complete his/her eighth grade year with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Students will be notified of their acceptance by June 30th.

Location

Saturday sessions take place on the downtown Dayton, Ohio campus of Sinclair Community College. The Young Scholars Office is located in Building 6, Room 6122.
