Commercial Energy Audits

Sinclair HVAC and Architectural Technology Departments joined Capstone Projects in the spring of 2007. They performed an energy audit of Building 14 on the Sinclair Community College campus. They collected as-built information from both construction prints and measurements. They also performed extensive data acquisition on scheduling, lighting, heating and air conditioning and other mechanical systems. The students used the energy simulation software, e-Quest, to simulate the building's performance and determine energy/cost saving measures. They compiled recommendations which they presented to Dr. Steven Johnson, President of Sinclair Community College, and the facility's management. Many of their recommendations are being initiated.

As a class project, the students are conducting an energy audit on the National Composite Center located in Dayton. This is involving extensive data acquisition. They are using utility analysis techniques and simulation software to recommend energy/cost saving measures.

Sinclair students, faculty and facilities management have joined efforts to determine measures for Sinclair Community College to meet the 20% reduction in energy usage required by House Bill 241.

Residential Energy Audit for Sinclair Community College and Staff

Sinclair students are now performing residential energy audits for Sinclair faculty and staff. After performing the field data collection, the students use energy simulation software, Energy-10, to estimate utility reductions and the simple cost payback by making repairs, alterations and operation changes to the residence.
