No calculators are permitted on tests in 101 and on Test I in 109.

A basic four-function calculator is required in 105 and strongly recommended in 106 and, after Test I, in 109.

Calculators are permitted in 102, but graphing calculators will not be required. Use of calculators on chapter tests is at the option of the instructor. Scientific (but not graphing) calculators will be permitted on the departmental final exam.

A graphing calculator is required in 151.

A scientific calculator is required in

108, 110, 116, 117, 121, 122, 131, 132, 133,
134, 201, 202, 203, 204, 215, 216, 218, 220.

Use of graphing calculators and symbolic manipulators (TI-92, HP 48, HP 28, and laptops) is at the option of the instructor. If a graphing calculator/symbolic manipulator is permitted, but not required, instructors should design tests so that a graphing calculator/symbolic manipulator does not offer a distinct advantage over a scientific calculator. For certain tests or portions of tests, the instructor has the option of permitting the use of a scientific calculator only or no calculator at all.

Department approval is necessary for an instructor to require his/her students to have a symbolic manipulator.

Texas Instrument calculators are the most commonly used.

NOTE:

Instructors are strongly encouraged to clearly communicate their calculator policy to their students, stress the instructor's right to adjust his or her individual policy (not the department's policy) on a case by case basis, as new technologies emerge, and be aware of the technology that their students are using.
