What are the objectives of the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Engineering Technology program at Sinclair?

The HVACR ET program develops well-rounded students prepared for careers or additional education in the HVACR field. Students in the certificate program are prepared for entry-level careers in residential and light commercial HVACR installation, with introductory training in service. Students completing the TAC/ABET accredited Associate Degree are prepared for a variety of careers in commercial/industrial HVACR as well as to continue on for a Bachelor's degree.
 
 
Associate of Applied Science in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, & Refrigeration

With the introduction of computer controlled heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, increasingly advanced technology is required to control indoor climate conditions, production processes, and food preservation. The Associate of Applied Science in HVACR ET provides the in-depth knowledge and skills needed for a variety of challenging careers in this growing industry. The focus is on the basic operating principles of commercial HVAC.

What specialized courses are offered in HVACR ET?

Once students have completed the foundation courses, courses cover the topics of heating and ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, industrial ventilation, controls, system analysis and design using computers, project planning, and estimation.

Principles are presented in a step-by-step fashion by addressing the topics of refrigeration, heating and ventilation, distribution, filtration, and control as individual subsystems. Upper level courses tie the subsystems together to discuss how they interact, providing proper system operation. Lectures and problem solving activities are supported by laboratory exercises to give students first-hand experience in reading instruments, analyzing data, drawing graphs, and preparing written and oral reports.

The TAC/ABET accredited curriculum balances theory and practical applications. The HVACR ET program's objectives are to prepare students with the technical and managerial skills necessary to enter careers in the design, application installation, manufacturing, operation, marketing and maintenance of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Students completing the sequence of courses will have competence in the program areas of air-conditioning processes, heating / cooling load calculations, ventilation principles, pipe and duct sizing and design, controls, and system components.
