SCIENCE, MATHEMATICS & ENGINEERING

Career Options

Airframe mechanics may work on the body (airframe) of many types of aircraft, such as jets, propeller-driven airplanes, and helicopters; or, airframe mechanics may specialize in one system of a particular type of aircraft, such as the hydraulic system or electrical system.

Possible job titles include:

  • Aircraft Maintenance Technician
  • Field Service Representative
  • Director of Aviation Maintenance
  • Production Machinist
  • Technical Assistant

Opportunities for airframe mechanics are expected to increase, driven in part by the growth in maintenance, repair, and overhaul activity that has accompanied the expansion of business and commercial aircraft fleets. Employment opportunities are expected in the manufacturing and overhaul sectors.
