Dean's Executive Council

Photo of George Sehi, Ph.D.The Dean's Executive Council (DEC) was created in 2003 to bring together executives from business, industry and education that could advise and collaborate with the Leadership Team in the Science, Mathematics and Engineering Division at Sinclair Community College. the council members are highly motivated senior leaders in their field and a part of meaningful change and development in the region.

The DEC Mission & Description and Accomplishments explain our intention to bring state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge educational methods together to better serve our students and the community. The council has helped clarify our mission and goals as well as the seven Major Initiatives that have been defined in our division. Significant progress has been achieved in the initial years of the Dean's Executive Council.

Our work on the council will further enhance the quality teaching and learning taking place in the classroom and, in turn, will produce highly qualified graduates to lead the workforce of the future.

Mission and Description

The mission of the Dean's Executive Council (DEC) for the Science, Mathematics and Engineering (SME) division is to provide support and guidance on the academic and engagement activities for the division.

Membership:
The Dean's Executive Council shall consist of no less than 20 members and will be invited to serve at the discretion of the Dean. Candidates will be selected based on their unique talents and experiences, their leadership abilities, their interest in providing necessary connections with other alumni and partners, and their commitment to the SME division. Members will be asked to commit to serve three-year terms and can be renewed at the dean's discretion.

Responsibilities:

  • Counsel the Dean and the Engineering & Technologies Leadership Team on the development, execution and assessment of the division initiatives.
  • Advise the Dean on strategic requirements facing industry and enterprises of applied technology.
  • Serve on task forces and committees as requested to address strategic and tactical activities in the SME division.
  • Provide feedback on marketing and communication materials.
  • Serve as an ambassador of the SME division within the Council member's respective professional industry and community.
  • Assist the Dean and the Leadership Team with individual, corporate and foundation donor prospects and, where appropriate, provide introductions for the Dean or Sinclair Foundation staff on prospect/donor visits. Assist in the identification, recruitment and participation of other key volunteers and partners for the division.
  • Attend two DEC meetings per year and, when appropriate, other events sponsored by the SME division. Travel expenses are the responsibility of the Council member.

  • Validated the Division's Emerging Technologies activities and provided external guidance on prioritization of the proposed list of potential emerging technologies.
