CPR - Requirements

Students enrolling in the radiologic technology program must be certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) through a professional-level course. You may complete a course through Sinclair Community College, the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.

Courses are offered at Sinclair Community College in the PED and LHS divisions. However, the PED course does not provide all skills required as a health care provider that are needed for clinical placement. ALH 140, Basic Life Support Training satisfies CPR certification requirements for the radiologic technology program. Certification is required before the first clinical course in the curriculum.

The American Red Cross offers yearly recertification. The course title is Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) or CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer.

The American Heart Association offers two-year recertification. The course title is Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professionals.

There are other course offerings available through the community, but note that not all facilities accept these other course offerings for CPR certification.
