Physical Therapy Assistant Program

Prerequisites

Prerequisites (11 semester credits)  must be completed before a student can be admitted to the PTA program (60 semester credits). The student is placed into the program database once the LHS division application is completed and returned to Sinclair Community College.

When the prerequisites have been completed, the student is contacted and placed on  (eligibility) list for a future class admission. Additional information is given to assist the student in completing general education requirements and planning for changes in personal responsibilities once in the program. A student is encouraged to meet with an academic advisor to complete a plan for completion.

2.5 Overall Grade Point Average (GPA)
This grade point is necessary for admission and must be maintained until the student begins the program.

BIO 121 - Anatomy and Physiology I - 5 credit hours
Structure and function of cells, tissues, the integument, skeletal, muscular and nervous systems. Emphasis on structural relationships with required BIO 127 lab. Any previous anatomy and physiology coursework being used to meet this requirement, cannot be more than five years old at the time the student begins the program.

ALH 104 - Allied Health Informatics - 2 credit hours
Orientation to the use of technology in the health care delivery system including: hardware, software, user interfaces, telecommunications and networks, and health management information systems.

PHY 100 - Introduction to Physics - 4 credit hours
A survey of motion, forces, energy, heat, gas laws, kinetic theory, electricity and magnetism. High School Physics is not accepted to meet this requirement.

PTA 106 - Introduction to Physical Therapy - 1 credit hour
Purpose, philosophy, history and development of the Physical Therapy profession. PTA duties, PT/PTA relationship, essential functions, legal and ethical responsibilities and professional behaviors, Function of regulatory agencies, licensing bodies and professional associations.

HIM 121- Basic Medical Terminology-  3 credit hours-Now required to prepare for admission to semester curriculum beginning Fall 2012.
