This course is a study of the form and function of the human dentition as it relates to dental auxiliaries for expanded functions.  This course is a five week course that meets during the Summer term.  This course is a prerequisite for entry into the Expanded Functions (EFDA) program.

Course Objectives:

1.  Identify by name and code number/letter of all the primary and permanent teeth using Universal, Palmer, and FDI numbering systems.

2.  Describe the maxillary and mandibular dental arches in terms of contact areas, embrasures, and additional features that contribute to normal anatomical form and function.

3.  Identify and describe principal morphological landmarks of the teeth.

4.  Understand some general rules about the eruption of teeth and occlusion.

5.  Recognize dental anomalies.

6.  Understand the relationship with the supporting structures of the teeth.

7.  Identify the particular anatomic features of teeth.
