Training Programs for Continuing Education

Coronal Polishing
This 7 CEU hour continuing education course will prepare the Certified Dental Assistant for coronal polishing techniques on the clinical crowns of the teeth. There are specific indications and contraindications for doing a coronal polish. A CDA who successfully completes the course may obtain coronal polishing certification in the state of Ohio.

Dental Anatomy for Dental Auxiliaries
This course is a study of the form and function of the human dentition as it relates to dental auxiliaries for expanded functions. This is an 8-week course that meets during the Summer term.  (EFD 1102-444 is scheduled on Wednesdays from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and  EFD 1102-445 is scheduled on Wednesdays from 6:00 - 8:00 pm).  This course is a prerequisite for entry into the Expanded Functions (EFDA) program

Dental Radiology
This course will prepare dental assistants for a Dental Radiography Cerificate as mandated by the OSDB. This course is designed for those who do not have a current Ohio Dental Radiographer's Certification or License.

Dental Sealants 
This 8 CEU continuing education course will prepare the certified dental assistant in the proper placement of dental sealants. This course focuses on two didactic hours  including dental anatomy, infection control, legalities, and placement technique. Six clinical hours concentrates on demonstration, practice and clinical competency.

Expanded Functions for Dental Auxiliaries
The EFDA course is a consecutive 2-part series totaling 12 college credit hours (200 contact hours) of intensive training in placing of amalgam and tooth colored restorations. Completion of this 2-part series entitles the Registered Dental Hygienist or Certified Dental Assistant to take the Commission on Dental Testing in Ohio designated examination for the Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary. Successful completion of this examination awards the certificate "Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary" (EFDA).

Local Anesthesia for Dental Hygienist
This course provides the dental hygienist with essential skills and knowledge necessary to safely and effectively administer local anesthesia. It consists of lecture, demonstration and clinical experiences. Completion of this course prepares the dental hygienist to take the NERB examination required for dental hygiene local anesthesia credentialing in Ohio. This course meets the OSDB standards for administration of local anesthesia by dental hygienists in Ohio.

Nitrous Oxide for Dental Hygienists and possibly for Dental Assistants
A four hour didactic and two hour clinical instruction course for dental hygienists on the administration of nitrous oxide sedation and for dental assistants on the monitoring of nitrous oxide sedation. This course adheres to the standards established by the Ohio State Dental Board.  Sinclair Community College is a permanent sponsor for Continuing Education as recognized by the Ohio State Dental Board.

Radiology Updates for Renewal of Certification
This course is designed for those who need to RENEW their current Ohio Dental Radiographer's Certification
