Student Achievement in Research and Scholarship

Sponsored by the Ohio Board of Regents, STARS (Student Achievement in Research and Scholarship) is a statewide faculty mentoring program for undergraduate underrepresented or low income, first generation students who are preparing themselves for graduate school and ultimately academic careers. The STARS program provides students with academic advising, independent research opportunities, conference participation and travel opportunities, networking opportunities, and assistance in applying to graduate school.

STARS Requirements for Research Mentoring Program:

  • African-American, Hispanic, Latino, or Native American students
  • or first generation college students or Pell eligible students of any race/ethnicity
  • 3.0 or higher GPA
  • 45 credit hours completed
  • US Citizen

STARS Goal:

To graduate with a bachelor's or master's degree and enter a profession.

Requirements to Join at Sinclair:

  • Fill out application and mentor form
  • Choose mentor
  • Work with mentor
  • Attend at least one of our two February workshops in order to present.
  • If you are selected as a presenter for the conference at the University of Cincinnati in April, we will put you up at the Marriott for Friday & Saturday night, supply all your meals for the weekend and pay you an incentive of $250 after your successful conference presentation.
  • Present at the University of Cincinnati STARS Conference, April 4-6, 2008.
