English as a Second Language
The English as a Second Language area is designed for non-native speakers of English.  After viewing the following six courses below, click Courses at the left for more information.
  
 
basic grammar patterns in speaking and writing, including simple present, present progressive and simple present, talking about the future, asking questions, modals of probability and possibility, past progress and simple past with time clauses, similarities and differences, and measure words and quantifiers. Moderate beginner reading text to be used for the purpose of reading comprehension, discussion, writing, vocabulary, and pronunciation. Requires a basic understanding of spoken and written English.
 
grammatical patterns including perfect tenses and complex sentences in reading and writing expository paragraphs; strategies for increasing accuracy and comprehension in listening and speaking (not an intensive course).
 
a higher level study and appreciation of grammar, reading comprehension and analysis of a required reading text, and writing using vocabulary learned from that text.
 
comprehension, appreciation, and use of various aspects of grammar supported by writing exercises, grammar quizzes, summarizing, vocabulary development, spoken clarity, and listening comprehension.
 
improvement of writing, reading, pronunciation, listening, vocabulary, grammar knowledge and use, summarizing, and critical thinking skills, all with the intent for preparation in academic college-level courses.
 
review of grammar, short essay composition, reading and listening comprehension as preparation for Fundamentals of English and Fundamentals of Reading (not an intensive course).
