Module 5: Speaking the Language:
Effective Communication Online

| Module 5 Overview | Module 5 Learning Activities | Module 5 E-Lesson |

Learning Activities
In order to successfully complete this module, the following Learning Activities must be completed. Check the Calendar for due dates.

Taking Inventory
1. You may want to write down your answers to this activity: This is for your benefit only and no one else will read it.

Take a moment before reading the E-Lesson to reflect on your past face-to-face classroom or workplace interactions:

  • Are you generally talkative or quiet? In what kinds of situations?
  • Do you feel comfortable making conversation with friends and new acquaintances alike?
  • How long does it take you typically to become comfortable exchanging ideas and opinions with a new acquaintance?
  • What makes you anxious or uncomfortable or shy in a face-to-face communication situation?
  • What can you do or have you done in the past to increase your level of comfort?

Now take a moment to think about a time when you were misunderstood or when you misunderstood what someone else was trying to convey: How did you resolve the misunderstanding?

E-Lesson
2. Read the E-Lesson.
